The Hunger Games

In this post I’m going to talk about one of my favorite science fiction books: The Hunger Games. This trilogy tells the story of a young girl who lives in Panem, a country that is divided into 12 districts (formerly in 13 districts) that are characterized according to their main activity and the capitol,a technologically advanced, utopian city where the nation's most wealty and powerfull citizens  live. Panem has a very strict and repressive government which rules in the capitol and oppresses the districts. In order to keep this state and to commemorate their victory in a civil war against district 13 that rebelled against the oppression of the government, the president established the hunger games. The hunger games were celebrated every year, two tributes, a man and a woman, from each district were chosen to be sent to an “arena” where they had to face a hostile environment and compete against each other so that just one of the tributes could survive and win the hunger games. In the first book “The hunger games” Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist, volunteered as a tribute to save her sister and she went to the capitol to prepare herself with Peeta (the other tribute) for the hunger games where she stood out and defied the government in several ways. In the second book, “Catching fire”, the story got more political; Katniss and Peeta participated again in the hunger games and they came together in an alliance with other old tributes who plotted a big blow to the government. In the third and final Book, “Mockingjay”, Katniss discovered that district 13 was alive hidden under the ground waiting for a war to get started against the capitol a well as the government; the rebels of all the districts were led by district 13 and Katniss was the public image of the revolution.

The Hunger Games Trilogy Review – No Spoilers / Spoiler FREE ...

This trilogy written by Suzane Collins is a very exciting and entertaining story that once you start reading traps you and involves you in all the action and the emotions that these books makes you feel. I also like this trilogy because it is very political, the 3 books show a revolutionary process which reflects through the science fiction a reality of oppression, violence and inequality that must be beaten just like it was in Mockingjay.
